Habitat for Humanity of St. Johns County

Habitat for Humanity of St. Augustine/St. Johns County is a nonprofit organization seeking to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. 

YOU can help us raise the roof for a retired veteran. Or build a bedroom for an at-risk child. Or create a stable foundation for a single mother. Or finish a kitchen where a low-income family will gather for meals and help with homework. Habitat St. Johns works to eliminate barriers so individuals and families in need can build a better future.

One of our partner families, Danielle and her teenage daughter, had outgrown the 1920s home they rented for years. Danielle wanted her daughter to have her own room to decorate, a space for friends to hang out, and the safety and security that owning a home brings. (Every teen should know the confidence that comes from a stable home.)

Originally from Iowa, Danielle moved to St. Augustine in 2010. She loves the area because of the excellent schools, the beaches and the vibrant downtown. After several years of working various jobs in the construction and development industry, the recession forced her to refocus. She began working in the nursing field and decided to go back to school for her nursing degree. The stability her Habitat home provided enabled Danielle to complete her degree and begin a new, better-paying career as a registered nurse. (Every parent wants a better future for their family.)

Your gift can help a hardworking individual or retired senior stay local, which helps keep our community vibrant. Every Habitat homeowner is part of their own solution—they put in at least 200 sweat equity hours and take financial literacy and homeowner education courses so they are set up for success. At the end of the program, Habitat partners close on a home with an affordable mortgage, prepared to handle insurance, taxes, maintenance, and all that comes with homeownership.

Our homebuyer partners include essential workers in our community—hospital staff, hospitality workers, teachers, first responders, service industry personnel—who would otherwise not be able to afford a home here.
